Vancouver has been on a tear lately…the Winter Olympics, the Stanley Cup (almost) and now the city is rolling out the red carpet in celebration of the 30th Vancouver International Film festival.
Sure, it was only two months ago that the Seattle International Film Festival screened its closing night film – but there are plenty of film lovers south of the boarder who are itching to get back in a dark theater with like-minded souls to screen some of the best films from around the world.
The ‘behind the scenes’ activities are kicking into high gear at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). Festival guests are being confirmed, film schedules are being locked down and the festival staff and volunteers are ramping up in preparation for the nearly 150,000 cinephiles who will spread out among the 10 venues VIFF calls home for its two-week run.
If you are planning on making that trip north on I-5 for VIFF this year it’s never too early to start planning. Here are some dates you’ll want to keep in your back pocket as the festival draws near.
The Vancouver International Film Festival

Sept. 18 – Full Box Office Open for Cash and Visa sales. If you didn’t get in on the advance sales – here’s your chance to make sure you have a seat at the theater (don’t worry if your first choice is sold out – VIFF will be offering up more than 350 films to choose from this year).
Sept. 29 – Dust of that tuxedo and head toward the Klieg lights for Opening Night of VIFF 2011.
Additional details on selected films, filmmakers in attendance and box office hours/locations will be coming out over the next several weeks. Check back here or at www.viff.org for the latest.
