The 2011 American Idol (AI) season’s top 11 finalists will be performing at the RBC Center in Raleigh tonight, July 27, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. Raleigh area residents are exuberant about having 2011 American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, back home again. Local Scotty fans who scored tickets to the concert tonight are the envy of many. One Raleigh mom who sends her children to preschool at Scotty’s home church, First Baptist Church of Garner, is so excited about going to the concert tonight that she barely slept last night. All of Scotty’s fans like him because he is a remarkably gifted musician with an endearing personality, but he is especially popular among Christians of all ages because of his uncompromising allegiance to his Lord and Savior.
Fame, fortune, and Hollywood have certainly tested this young performer. Instead of wavering under all the pressure, however, he has allowed these trials to strengthen his faith. In his personal testimony, Scotty wrote about the long and difficult days away from home where he was no longer surrounded by Christian friends and family during this past season with AI. When he was tempted to give up and return home, he remembered Philippians 4:13 and found strength in God to persevere.
” I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
Scotty McCreery does not merely keep his faith to himself. His desire is that more people will come to Christ. On his fan page, he reminds his fans that Christ is “there for all of us! All we have to do is call on Him!” Then Scotty cites Romans 10:13.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 NIV)
God has given Scotty many opportunities to shine the light of Christ during the 2011 American Idol Live! concert tour. Tonight, Scotty will get to share his talent and this light with his local community who surely love him best. Some especially fortunate ticket holders will get to meet Scotty and the other 10 performers in person during the meet and greet session scheduled this evening.
As Christian fans continue to support Scotty and promote his music, they should also continue to pray that his faith will keep growing stronger. As crowds go wild and lift up Scotty, may Scotty continue to lift up Christ.
15 “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:15-17 NIV)
