Welcome to the weekly saltwater fishing reports for the upper and middle coast of Texas. The reports are gathered from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department WEEKLY REPORTS and local fishing guides. Check out the TPWD website for a complete listing of all Texas lakes and rivers reports.
NORTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad on soft plastics. Redfish are good under rafts of shad on topwaters. Redfish are good on small topwaters.
SOUTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad. Trout are good at the jetty on live bait and topwaters. Trout are good in the surf on topwaters and shad.
Capt. Eddie Hernandez, 409-673-3100, www.goldenhookguide.com, reports that at this time of the year he is spending most of his fishing time fishing below the bridge or out at the jetties.
BOLIVAR: Trout are good on the outgoing tide at Rollover Pass on MirrOlures and soft plastics. Redfish have been taken at the mouth of the marsh on Gulps. Tarpon have been showing along the beach.
TRINITY BAY: Trout are good for drifters working pods of shad and mullet. Trout are good around the wells on live shrimp. Trout, redfish and flounder are good at the spillway on live bait.
EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are good for drifters working deep shell on glow, plum and purple Sand Eels, Bass Assassins, Tidal Surges and TTF plastics. Trout are fair to good on the shell adjacent to the channel on live bait.
WEST GALVESTON BAY: Sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and crabs. Trout are good in the surf on live bait and topwaters. Offshore is good for kingfish, ling and dolphin. Tarpon have been seen in good numbers in Tarpon Alley.
Capt. Steve Hillman, 409-256-7937, www.hillmanguideservice.com, reports that his clients on the 24th caught 25 trout to 23 inches. “We lost some nice trout and caught some throwbacks as well. Over-all we were pleased with the results. Limetreuse Salt Water Assassin Sea Shads and various colored Queen Cocahoe Minnows over shell in 6 to 7 feet of water was the way to go. If we would have had decent tide movement Lord only knows how many fish we would have caught.”
SAN LOUIS PASS: Trout are good on shrimp.
CHRISTMAS BAY: Trout, redfish, sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs in the Bay.
TEXAS CITY: Trout are fair to good on the reefs and in the channel on live shrimp and croakers.
MOSES LAKE: Redfish and sand trout are fair to good in Moses Lake on shrimp.
FREEPORT: Trout are good on shrimp, MirrOlures and soft plastics. The surf held trout.
EAST MATAGORDA BAY: MirrOlures and soft plastics. The surf has held trout on live bait and artificial.
WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are fair on sand and grass humps on soft plastics and topwaters. Redfish and black drum are fair on live shrimp in Oyster Lake and around Shell island. Trout are good in the surf on live bait and topwaters.
Capt. Tommy Countz,, 281-450-4037, www.matagordafishing.com, reports his clients caught lot of small trout that were under feeding birds in East Matagorda Bay. Redfish were working bait along the shoreline of West Matagorda Bay. Explosive strikes were experienced on pink Skitter WalksI had Bob down to the grass beds where we found some small fish and finally managed to box three reds and two trout.
SAN ANTONIO BAY:
Capt. Chris Martin, 888-677-4868, www.BayFlatsLodge.com, reports this is the best trout fishing he’s experienced in the past 5 years.” From boat fishing with live bait to wade fishing with top waters or soft plastics, trout fishing has been good as it gets for most groups. The big push on monster size reds is already taking place as well. Just the other day our guests released a 42″ & 38″ red.”
