Of the twenty state of the art salons that placed and received honorable mentions as Salons of Distinction amongst Salon Today’s 2011 Salons of the Year competition, only one was from Long Island. Congratulations to 27 Hampton Salon located in Southampton for being voted a Salon of Distinction.
Criteria in choosing the Salon of the Year included “six different décor categories including use of lighting, color, flooring and space, overall aesthetics and consistency of design” based upon essays and photographs submitted by the entries which fosters an overall positive experience for clients and staff.* Unique to the salons are the color and chemical bars where stylists can work and interact with the client. No more mixing and hiding behind closed doors creating confidence between colorist and customer. Clutter is well hidden and the shampoo areas have taken on a life of their own creating an enticing atmosphere and experience, which should always be the highlight of any salon visit. “Clients remember a good shampoo” is “beauty culture 101” according to Floral Park’s own Sewanhaka High School Beauty Culture former teacher, Miss Filicomo.
Although 27 Hampton Salon may be a little pricey for the readers of this column, the overall functionality and appeal of the décor may be an inspiration for equally talented hairstylists working in or owning modern salons with moderate pricing looking to update their salons and increase profit.
