When NFL teams were trying to get their rosters down to the league-mandated 80 players on Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints were attempting to do the same but also made one addition to the team. Kicker John Kasay was signed due to an injury suffered by Garrett Hartley during this past Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.
It appears now that signing may have been much more valuable than first imagined.
Coach Sean Payton was originally labeling Hartley’s injury as a “sore hip,” and no other real information has yet been given forth. But former Saints quarterback, current analyst, Bobby Hebert tweeted on Thursday that things may be looking a lot more grim.
@BobbyHebert3: Hartley out possibly 8 wks. Let’s hope kasay is as good with us, as he was against us!
If this is indeed true, then its possible Hartley could land on the PUP list and sit out the first six weeks of the season or even land on IR for the entire year. Placing him on one of these lists will allow the Saints to use that roster spot for another player while he is gone.
