It’s been a celebratory summer for England’s Royal Family in 2011. Just months after the highly publicized wedding of Prince William and wife Kate Middleton, Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Zara Phillips wed the captain of England’s ruby team Mike Tindall on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in historic Edinburgh. This wedding, a less spectacular event as it was not televised, was still a spectacular event for the locals and attended by a host of elites and Royals.

Zara Phillips, who is thirteenth in line to the Royal throne and described as more down-to-earth than Royal in demeanor, had a ceremony that was markedly different from the Prince’s wedding earlier this summer. Phillips has chosen to maintain her maiden name and exchanged vows in which she promised to honor but not obey.
The wedding, held in a small Church of Scotland known as Canogate Kirk, drew such guests as Prince William and Catherine, and the Queen who was accompanied by Prince Philip. The reception was at Palace of Holyroodhouse which is also the Queen’s residence near the church. The Queen attends the church when she is at the Palace of Hollyroodhouse.
Other name-guests included Princess Anne who is Zara’s mother and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla – the Duchess of Cornwall – Prince Edward and Sophie – the Countess of Wessex – as well as Prince Andrew and his daughters – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
Local rugby players and coaches, well-known in England, were reportedly the bulk of the groom’s guest list.
Well-wishers and star-gazers, who were cordoned off across the street from the church, numbered in the hundreds. Some people camped overnight to have a front-row spot to see the elites enter the church. In spite of the fact that police announced there would be little to see, persons traveled from as far as Canada to get a glimpse of the Royals.
Reports indicate that the loudest crowd reactions were to the arrival of the Queen, followed by explosive crowd reactions to the entrances of Prince William and Catherine, and Prince Harry.
Phillips, 30, and Tindall, 32, who have been a couple since 2004, are postponing their honeymoon as they both have sporting events to attend in the coming week. The bride will be involved in horse trials, and the groom has a major rugby competition scheduled.
Just as with the wedding of Prince William and Catherine, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were not invited to the ceremony. Additionally, American dignitaries who were invited to the previous Royal wedding this summer were not invited this time.
