As part of Hip Hop International’s 10 year anniversary, the event added the MegaCrew division with crews made of member of 15 to 40 individuals. It sure was a hit as the event drew a cavalcade of great MegaCrews throughout the world.
Originating in the dance community of California, the California crews originally dominated the preliminaries sending all crews to the semi-finals and then to then to the finals. As yesterday final’s commenced, the U.S. seemed to be the country that may take home at least two of the three medals. However, it was the tenacity of New Zealand that swayed the judges as The Royal Family took the gold medal from Super Galactic Beat Manipulators of San Diego, CA.
It was still a battle for Super Galactic Beat Manipulators with their silver medal as they won the silver medal by .08 of a point against Praise T.E.A.M of Canada who had to settle for bronze.
For Justin Vaughn of Super Galactic Beat Manipulators he said, “That camaraderie between New Zealand and Canada and everybody here has just been great. It’s the icing on the cake.”
It’s been surreal for all three crews as they realize that they are making Hip International International history as being the first three crews to medal in a new competition division. Expect next year’s MegaCrew event to attract a more stronger competition.
