Oranjestad, Aruba – Gary Giordano, the man being held in Aruba in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Maryland woman Robyn Gardner, said “She might be dead now” to authorities shortly after the search for her had begun, according to reports Monday.
Giordano, 50, called police on Aug. 2 at about 6:30 p.m. to report that Robyn, 35, had vanished while the two were snorkeling off the western coast of Aruba in a location called Baby Beach. He alleged that she was pulled away by the ocean current and he was unable to reach her.

ABC News learned that during Giordano’s initial call to police, he seemed very drunk, according to a local fisherman, Sergio Silva.
“One of the police guys told us that he was so drunk that we got to wait, we can’t talk to him now,” said Silva.
Although Giordano denied purchasing alcohol at a restaurant that he and Robyn were last seen, police obtained receipts that the traveling companions ordered four Bloody Marys at about 9:00 a.m. At the Orlando Airport prior to their departure for Aruba. In addition, the two purchased a liter of vodka after checking into their hotel room once they arrived on the island nation.
According to ABC News, just hours after the search had begun for Robyn, Giordano looked down at his watch and calmly told authorities, “She might be dead now.”

In addition, a source told ABC that Robyn’s mother, Andrea Coulson, said that Giordano called her three days after Robyn went missing saying, “I just got my socks and my shoes wet when I was looking for your daughter.”
According to sources, photos of Robyn found on Giordano’s digital camera are “graphic and disturbing” and “beyond pornographic.”
Giordano has not yet been charged with a crime, but has been detained in connection with Robyn’s vanishing. He could be released Tuesday unless a judge rules there is enough evidence to continue to hold him.
