This one seems a bit far-fetched.
Last year, 33 miners were rescued from a mine after being trapped there for 69 days. The story was heard ’round the world, and less than a year since the daring rescue, efforts to translate the story to film have been remarkably progressive. Producer Michael Medavoy (Black Swan) picked up the film rights and hired Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries) to write the screenplay for the project. All of that is true.
Now, according to Impre, Robert Pattinson is one of the actors being considered for the project.
Remarkable names like Robert Pattinson, Gael Garcia and Antonio Banderas, could be part of the extensive cast for the film of the Chilean miners . . . .
While it’s plausible that Pattinson could be involved with such a picture, it’s hard to imagine he’d be affiliated with in an actor capacity. Why? Well, take a look at the 33 Chilean Miners about whom the story would be told. Not that actors necessarily have to look exactly like their non-fiction counterparts, but there has to be some resemblance, and the distinctions are especially obvious here. While the other two names put forward by Impre are a bit more appropriate for the concept, Pattinson’s seems way off, don’t you think? On the other hand, he did portray the Spanish Salvador Dali in Little Ashes, so it’s not completely impossible. Still, this seems doubtful to me . . . or at the very least premature. We shall see.
UPDATE: A reader, Sabrina, submitted a really poignant thought on this potential news by suggesting that perhaps, if Pattinson is indeed being considered for the movie, he might be up for a news anchor role or something along those lines. Indeed, the story of the Chilean Miner rescue would have a great deal to do with the media attention the incident received, so that is a perfectly logical possibility. Thanks Sabrina! That idea certainly makes it seem more possible that Pattinson could be approaching this project in an actor capacity after all. Your thoughts?
