Scottsdale fans are thrilled to hear Wednesday morning that acclaimed actor Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife Susan are expecting their first child together. The couple was married in 2005, and Downey has one son, Indio, with former wife Deborah Falconer. The pair has not shared an exact due date, but their baby is expected to arrive in early 2012.
People was the first to confirm the news, and Downey’s rep shared, “Robert and Susan could not be more excited over this news. They can’t wait to welcome this new baby into their wonderful family.” Robert had already been teasing that the duo was planning on having children together, as he mentioned it during promotion for his film Due Date in 2010. He teased, “I think I will be wrist-deep in doo-doo within 18 months. I’m calling it right here.”
Sounds like their plan fell right into place. The couple met in 2002 while working on the set of Gothika, a movie Susan co-produced and Robert starred in with Halle Berry. They were engaged in November 2003 and married in Amagansett, New York in August, 2005. While Downey was known for his substance abuse issues for many years, he has been sober since he and Susan got together.
Robert Downey, Jr. will next be seen in Sherlock Holmes, which will premiere in December. He is also headlining The Avengers, where he reprises his role as Iron Man. The highly-anticipated Avengers film will be released in May, 2012. Due Date is available on DVD, which can be found at various stores including the Barnes & Noble stores at both the Scottsdale Fiesta Shopping Center and Kierland Commons.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
