A while back I was able to check out Sega’s new game Rise of Nightmares for the XBOX 360 using Kinect. They are bringing the blood and monsters and puppy bodied people for you to have a nice little romp in this insane world where ballerinas will try to kill you and others like zombies and other mythical monsters will also try to rip you apart.
In this game you play as a casual American tourist taking a tour in Eastern Europe when all hell breaks loose and you find yourself separated from your wife. Your journey will take you to a secluded mansion where something seems a little off. Your goal is to rescue your wife from the mad scientist that resides in the mansion before he does some crazy experiment to her and more than likely will kill her.
Just how mad is this scientist you ask? Lets just say he had a friend and his best friend and decided that they would make a great match so he put the head of one on the body of the other. He also likes demon like rituals and bathing in blood. In one part of the demo you will find yourself in a pool of blood. As it turns out, this wacky scientist likes to have little sex parties in there with his harem of half naked zombies. I guess they are fresh out of dating services out there.
The design of the game was reminiscent of games like Resident Evil where the character is in a secluded place and there is no stopping of creatures trying to kill you and yourself simultaneously trying to solve puzzles by finding keys to gates in the area and of course, huge boss battles. This is a good way to ease the player into the style of the game and it is also very easy to pick up and play. Just react how you would normally. If you hear something that is making your ears bleed, cover them. If you have a door in your way, kick it. These type of options allow the player to really immerse themselves in the experience.
We all have high hopes for this title to bring to Kinect what some of the hardcore gamers have been waiting for. With its control scheme allowing for the users to act out the motions in the game and with more storyline than the majority of Kinect games. This is definitely a step in the right direction to help the Kinect succeed in the coming months.
