The movie ‘Rio’ recently came out on DVD. The second my kids saw it we had to rent it. The kids loved it, but mom was not impressed.
This movie is very colorful. It will keep the attention of small children with the vibrant colors of the bird’s feathers. It starts out looking like a great movie about a woman and her love for her pet bird.
We find out that he is the only blue macaw left besides one female. They get talked into going to Rio to try and breed so that they do not become extinct. This is where the story starts to lose its focus. There are several cute birds thrown into the mix, but we don’t see most of them long enough to remember their names.
This movie shows us the love between Linda and her bird Blu. We also meet Jewel, the female Blue Macaw, who wants to be free and not stuck in a cage all her life. Linda has been alone besides Blu for a long time, but she does actually find someone as well. Anne Hathaway does an amazing job as the voice of Jewel.
‘Rio’ is kid friendly for all ages. It is a great movie to rent at a local Oklahoma City store if you want something to keep the kids occupied. I would not recommend it for parents because the story line is lacking. ‘Rio’ is best for young children in the age groups of 3-8. My children loved it, but it is not one they will be begging me to purchase.
