With Ring of Honor debuting on Sinclair Broadcasting stations in Eastern Iowa and nationwide on September 24th, the top independent company in wrestling has announced their first main events. The first tapings will be held in Chicago Ridge, Illinois, just two weeks from now.
The first show’s main event will feature the ROH Tag Team titles on the line as Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, put the titles on the line against former champions Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli, the Kings of Wrestling. Rumors have floated about the Kings jumping to WWE, so this could be both their last Chicago Ridge and ROH appearance.
The new Ring of Honor champion Davey Richards faces down former champion Roderick Strong in a rematch of their brutal battle from Final Battle 2010. The title is on the line for what should be a big television main event.
El Generico beat Christopher Daniels for the World Television Championship just over a month ago to set up Daniels’ full time return to TNA. At the ROH tapings, Generico defends that title against a former TNA star Jay Lethal. No word yet on whether Lethal will bring his “Black Machismo” gimmick with him.
Also in action at the tapings will be former World Champion Eddie Edwards as he wrestles in a Defy or Deny rematch against rising star Michael Elgin.
More matches are likely to be announced in the next 13 days. Other ROH talents scheduled to appear include the Briscoe Brothers, the All Night Express (Rhett Titus and Kenny King), the team of Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly, the Bravado Brothers, “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett and Tommaso Ciampa (along with the Embassy).
Cedar Rapids wrestling fans unable to make it to Chicago Ridge for the show can rest assured they will see all the action. Starting September 13th, ROH Wrestling will air on KFXZ-Fox (local channel 28.1) at 11:30 p.m. every Saturday night. It will also air at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings on KGAN-CBS (local channel 2.1).
