The Rhone Rangers ride into Los Angeles this Sunday, August 7th, for their annual consumer and trade wine tasting event! Saddle up and gallop down to Pier 59 Studios West in Santa Monica for an afternoon of exploring America’s interpretation of France’s Rhone wines. Forty Rhone Ranger member wineries will pour over 200 wines during the afternoon tastings.
General admission for this wine tasting, which is paired with artisan cheeses and tapas plates, is $45, and held from 2-5 pm. There is a VIP admission for $75, allowing for a 2 hour head start on the crowd, beginning at 12 noon. Among the wineries participating are Tablas Creek, Anglim, Bonny Doon, Calcareous, Eberle, Qupe, Stolpman, and Zaca Mesa. For the full list, check the Rhone Rangers website.
The Rhone Rangers organization is over 1,000 members strong, from all aspects of the wine industry nationwide, comprised of wineries, professionals, growers, and “sidekicks”, or interested wine lovers that support their mission. These producers are passionate about making hand-crafted American Rhone wines, red and white, from classic Rhone grape varieties. These tasting events serve to bring their wines to the big cities, giving everyone the chance to experience their little piece of heaven in a glass.
If you’ve had these delicious, lip-smacking wines before, you know what a treat it is to have them in our backyard. It’s especially great for wine lovers who haven’t had the chance to travel to these wineries and sip the complex pleasure that is a Rhone wine. They are perfect all weather wines, great with summer barbecue, and a great match with heavier winter food. Red Rhone wines can be a spicy Syrah, with a dark fruit, peppery, meaty quality; or a classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre that thrills with it’s complex palate of fruit, earth, leather, and spice. White Rhone wines can be an exotic Viognier, with a bouquet of apricots, pears, and tropical fruits; or a crisp Grenache Blanc, with green apple flavors and aromas.
These wines are available locally at K & L Wines in Hollywood, or online, with the click of a mouse, at the winery websites, and shipped directly to your door.
