She finds employment as a bartender at Red McClure’s establishment, along with renting the apartment above. As she settles in, she begins to put her plan into action. But, as luck would have it, three of the men suddenly die suspiciously, but deemed from natural causes.
Chief Holt Drennen is strongly attracted to and interested in Edie, a feisty dark-haired woman different from the other women in the town. She is the first woman that has caught his eye since moving back to town upon his wife’s death five years ago. Edie’s interest mirrors Holts.
As their relationship intensifies, Holt believes Edie is somehow involved in events surrounding the multiple deaths and the black angels found at each scene. She ultimately becomes the prime suspect as more of Edie’s past is disclosed, thereby losing her major ally. Can Holt put aside his romantic feelings for her to protect the town he was sworn to serve?
Holt must find the guilty party to prove Edie’s innocence. Someone doesn’t want the truth to unfold, which places Edie in danger. As the events of the past start to unravel, suspects begin to be eliminated and more pieces of the puzzle put together, eventually revealing the murderer.
Congratulations go out to Ms. Solomon for a story that blended life, romance, love, family, suspense, and mystery throughout the book that kept one constantly involved. Her writing is superb in offering a means to hook the reader from page one.
All of the characters were very descriptive, lovable and believable. With the main characters, the author relayed how they must get beyond their pasts in order to move forward and enjoy their future. An important message that is applicable in any type of relationship.
A thoroughly enjoyable read enhanced with many twists and turns, offering several different scenarios before the guilty party was actually revealed. A highly recommended book that is fast-paced and hard to put down. Greatly looking forward to reading additional novels by this author!
