In response to ATF Director Kenneth Melson’s transfer out of the agency to a demoted position in the Department of Justice, Alan Gottlieb of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) issued a statement saying that Attorney-General Eric Holder is playing a shell game with personnel and called on Holder to resign.
Gottlieb stated that by shifting Melson to a different position rather than firing him, Holder is playing a game of political charades. In an article that appeared in the Ammoland website, Gottlieb laid out in clear terms who is responsible for the Project Gunwalker fiasco (Operation Fast and Furious) and the ensuing coverup:
“Holder is just moving deck chairs on the Titanic. Today’s announcements will do nothing to restore America’s confidence in the BATF or the Justice Department so long as Eric Holder remains the Attorney General.
“The ultimate responsibility for Fast and Furious lies with Holder. Melson is just the latest player to be shifted around, rather than lose his job. Everyone directly involved in the Fast and Furious scandal has simply been moved to another position. There has been no discipline and no accountability, because the man who should be ultimately accountable is still running the Justice Department.
“That’s the only thing that is really transparent about this entire administration. They are looking out for themselves, and playing administrative games when they should step up to the plate and accept responsibility for this scandal.
“Several people have been moved from the ATF office in Phoenix to other jobs, especially in Washington, D.C. because of Fast and Furious. If there had not been significant wrong-doing, none of these moves would have been made. This is an admission of guilt by the Obama administration without saying so. And where is the president in all of this? Maybe he’s hiding out on the ninth hole of a golf course.”
The ATF–the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives–was originally a small tax collection department of the federal government. But, as Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) reports in its shocking film, ‘The Gang,’ the agency today exists for one purpose alone–to instill fear into gun owners, gun stores, and firearms and ammo dealers.
According to JPFO,
“When we’re afraid to make a purchase at a gun show, own an interesting collection of firearms, or effectively protect our own home and family, then we’ve already lost most of the right to keep and bear arms.
“Notice the key word: afraid. Simple fear of being investigated or prosecuted is enough to deter honest citizens from having, owning, using, or even taking an interest in firearms. When you realize the staggering cost of legal defense against even a bogus federal prosecution, you have every reason to be afraid. And the BATFE has always relied on our fear.
“If you own, buy, build, collect, sell, or use a firearm, this tax-funded agency is quickly becoming your worst enemy.”
Such an organization is tailor-made for individuals such as Eric Holder, Barack Obama, gun ban advocates, and Progressives who believe that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is but a pesky inconvenience in their march to disarm the citizenry.
But as the JPFO film shows, the ATF’s evil began long before Project Gunwalker, including the horrific Ruby Ridge massacre during which the wife and 13-year-old son of alleged anti-government operative Randy Weaver were gunned down and killed in cold blood, although neither were suspected of wrongdoing.
And now, as the agency is once again embroiled in a mind-boggling scandal in which guns were deliberately placed into the hands of Mexican criminals who then used those firearms to murder countless individuals in Mexico and the U.S., the Holder Justice Department is frantically engaging in a massive coverup so as to protect its biggest weapon against citizens who value and utilize their Constitutional right to keep and bear arms–the ATF.
