Picture books are not just for very young children. CU education professor Shelby Wolf is leading a one-day course on rekindling the use of picture books in children ages 6 through 12.
With increasing demands on children to perform at higher levels at school, many parents are shying away from picture books and encouraging their children to read chapter books. As Wolf will show to parents and children during this class, picture books have value for children all through the elementary school years.
This course is offered through the University of Colorado’s CU on the Weekend program. This program is structured around one day classes and is open to the public.
“Picture Books for Older Children” is offered Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $10 per family. Children are welcome to attend, but must to accompanied by a parent at all times.
