Even without a new album or music of her own, Carrie Underwood hits the top of the charts–specifically Mediabase–with her duet, “Remind Me,” with Brad Paisley.
So far, in Underwood’s 6-year career, she has previously amassed 14 #1 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and Mediabase (and one on the Hot 100 Singles chart with “Inside Your Heaven”), which ranks songs based on radio airplay. It should be noted that some singles may have charted just on one of the charts and not both, as is the example of “Mama’s Song”–Underwood’s last single on her platinum-selling Play On–which hit #1 only on Mediabase. Among her singles, Underwood has bashed the male species (“Before He Cheats,” “Cowboy Casanova,” “Undo It”), sought after a higher power (“Jesus Take the Wheel,” “Temporary Home”), and relished in the American dream (“All-American Girl”). She seems to be right on track to continue her superstar status.
For Paisley, “Remind Me” is the third entry in his string of released singles for his new album, This is Country Music, which dropped May 23 earlier this year and becomes his 16th #1 single. His previous two singles, “This is Country Music” and “Old Alabama,” both hit #1. Looks like he is on an unstoppable locomotive of success!
Both artists, in the midst of the whirlwind of Hollywood, have kept themselves rooted and connected to one another. Perhaps it is their down-home nature and charming personalities, or maybe it is their consistent stint as cohosts for the CMA Awards in recent years, but they have developed a strong musical chemistry that is comparable to Johnny and June Cash. Either way, Underwood and Paisley are leaving a definite imprint on Country music.
The accompanying video for the single, which tracks a couple walking the desert towards one another, took on a much more metaphorical approach.
“We had to go very delicate in how we did it, because obviously we’re both separately married to other people, and it would be weird with our friendship, being in this lovey-mushy-gushy story,” Underwood explains.
As the summer wanes on, Paisley and Underwood keep the heat on high and won’t be letting up anytime soon. If they keep at it, “Remind Me” just may hit #1 on Billboard, as well.

Note: “Remind Me” is Underwood’s 14th #1 at Country Radio. “Inside Your Heaven,” her American Idol coronation song hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 shortly after her Idol win bringing her total to 15.
