One of the benefits of frequenting a great local bookstore like BookPeople is taking advantage of the staff recommendations. Employees who spend their days amongst the stacks know best what most deserves to be next on your reading list.
Tonight, a staff favorite will celebrate its release in the store. Close Your Eyes is the latest novel from Amanda Eyre Ward, and it builds on the author’s reputation for crafting thoughtful stories from the darker side of life. Lauren Mahidian’s life centers around the morning she woke up at six years old and she and her older brother found their mother’s body.
With their father in prison for the murder, Alex and Lauren have only each other. But years later, Alex reveals that he’s been in contact with their father, and that he’s not sure they know the full story about what happened to their mother. The uncertainty which surrounds Lauren is further compounded when Alex then goes missing. She’ll have to dig into the depths of her long-forgotten memories, and readers will have to turn the pages in suspense, to get to the truth.
In celebration of the novel’s release, a jazz duet will play from 6:30 to 7 pm, Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company will be providing beer and root beer, and the book store will be joining with Austin Bat Cave to present the winner of Austin’s Young Literary Light Contest. Enjoy the refreshments and entertainment while meeting the author of a staff-approved new release.
