While most people celebrate their birthday with a small party, rapper Soulja Boy decided to treat himself to a $55 million jet for his 21st birthday.
Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Way, purchased a $35 million Gulfstream G5 jet on Thursday and added an additional $20 million in upgrades.
As if his present wasn’t big enough, Soulja Boy also spent $300,000 on a birthday bash at a Miami nightclub on Friday night, which included guests such as NBA star Dwight Howard and rapper/actor Bow Wow.
In an attempt to make some money back the singer charged fans $2.99 to watch the event on pay per view.
Despite the massive purchase, Forbes Magazine estimated Soulja Boy’s net worth at $6 million in 2010.
Additionally, the state of California filed a $26,000 tax lien on the hip-hop singer in March 2011. Not to mention his Georgia home was foreclosed on just one year ago.
Soulja Boy’s debut effort Souljaboytellem.com (2007) sold over one million copies, but his last two efforts have been commercial failures. His last album,The DeAndre Way (2010), managed to sell just 13,000 copies in its first week and 60,000 total.
Perhaps Soulja Boy is unfamiliar with the likes of fellow rapper MC Hammer, who famously had to file for bankruptcy after living beyond his means and going $13 million into debt in 1996.
