The Oakland Raiders fell 40-20 against the visiting New Orleans Saints for their week 3 preseason game on Sunday, August 28, 2011 in Oakland, CA. The Raiders very much improved from last week’s game against Bay Area rival 49ers where Oakland only scored three points. However, the improvement was not enough to win against the Saints. The Raiders remain winless at 0-3 in the preseason.
The Raiders appeared to have matched well with the Saints. The offense marched from its own nine yard line to score a touchdown on its opening drive to match the Saints offense’s opening drive touchdown. After trailing 17-10 at half-time, the Raiders took a 20-17 lead in the third quarter. That was, however, the last points the Raiders scored. Starting quarterback Jason Campbell was 12/17 for 150 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Wide receiver Derek Hagan made an impact with his 6 receptions for 121 yards effort including a 35-yard touchdown haul. Running back Taiwan Jones also made his presence known with 81 yards in 13 carries including a 22-yard touchdown run.
Backup quarterback Chase Daniel led the Saints to score 23 unanswered points in the second half to give the 40-20 victory to the New Orleans Saints.
In week 4 of the NFL preseason, the Oakland Raiders will travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 7:30pm.
