Roseville Theatre Arts Academy is a non-profit community theater that offers a wide variety of performing arts training to students of all ages. Programs include youth workshops, Master Series musicals and plays, choir, dance classes, audition workshops and more.
There are several “Youth Workshops” throughout the year which include kids aged 4-15, and they are split into two groups – “Little Ones” aged 4-7, and “Youth” aged 8-15. The enrollment fee for the Youth Workshop is $200, and $125 for the Little Ones Workshop. All shows are originally written musicals where every child gets to play their own individual character with speaking roles, dancing and singing as all part of the fun experience. At the end of the workshop all of the kids have the opportunity to perform together in full costume for their families, friends, and members of the community. The 2011 Summer production titled, “The Saga of Sweet Hannah Sue, or Nobody’s Perfek” is in rehearsals now, and will have performances August 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th. For more information, please visit here. Tickets to see the show are on sale now for $9, and may also be purchased the night of the performance at the door.
For those individuals who may have a little more theater experience, RTAA offers their Master Series plays and musicals for people aged 10 and up. The enrollment fee for the Master Series, if selected after auditions, is $225. The roles are cast based on auditions, and are taught by experienced teachers where students learn more complex choreography, music and acting. The Broadway musicals are performed in full costumes with the whole experience of a tech crew, sets, lights, sound and a live orchestra. The 2011 Summer production titled, “Children of Eden” is currently in rehearsals and will be performing September 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 23rd and 24th. For more information, please visit here.
For the very first time RTAA is offering a theater program beginning in September exclusively for the homeschooling community. Just like in their regular Youth Workshops, children are grouped by age – Youth, 8-15 years; and Little Ones, 4-7 years – and at the end of the workshop they all perform a show together for friends, family, and members of the community in full costumes. This workshop is designed to reach a broader base of students by offering morning and early afternoon rehearsals for those who are unable to attend their regular evening Youth program. The enrollment fee for the Homeschool Workshop is $200 for Youth, and $125 for Little Ones. For more information, please visit here.
The RTAA Community Choir is open to all ages and all singing abilities from more experienced members, to those who have never sang outside their shower. All they ask is that you bring your voice and your enthusiasm! In this once-weekly class you will learn to sing, read music and harmonize with Musical Director Jennifer Vaughn. The cost is $35 per month, but just for the month of August new members can join for free just to see how much fun they all have together. For more information, please visit here.
RTAA also offers dance classes with Cassie March on Mondays where kids of all ages learn stretching, conditioning, jazz and tap. They are working on organizing some upcoming performances that will team up with Jennifer’s Community Choir. There are 2 six-week sessions available in the Fall beginning August 22nd for the first session, and October 10th for the second. The cost for each session is $125. For more information, please email Cassie at [email protected], or visit here.
The next available specialized workshop is a Commercial Workshop with Lacey Mael on Saturday, August 13th from 9am-Noon, where participants will learn all about commercial auditions. Lacey uses her experience as an actress to teach students of all ages topics such as slating, tempo and professional audition techniques while working on-camera. Class is limited to only 20 spots, and requires pre-registration. For more information, please visit here.
