This Examiner definitely has a sweet tooth and is always on the lookout for new gluten-free yummies. Recently a package of samples from Ethel’s Edibles arrived at my door with Hot Blondies and Pecan Dandy Bars.
This Examiner had not heard of Ethel’s Edibles before and was pleased to find out that the owner, Jill Bommarito, named the company after her grandmother in tribute to her homemade goods that were made from the heart. Jill has a number of family members with Celiac Disease and set out to reinvent her grandmother’s famous recipes.
This Examiner was really impressed with the hot blondies because they taste like they just came out of the oven, they are loaded with chocolate chips and they are soft and moist. They are also very large, so this Examiner found that eating half was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. The rich buttery saltiness and brown sugar really combine to make the perfect blondie without being overly sweet. The blondies are a little fragile and my sample didn’t make it completely intact, but even the crumbs were heavenly.
Now, the Pecan Dandy Bars were extraodinary. Not being from the South, this Examiner has become a pecan pie fanatic and believes they taste just like pecan pie, but in bar form. The rich caramel was chocked full of pecans and the buttery/flaky crust really tied the flavors together. These bars are rich in flavor without being overly sweet and are better than any homemade pecan pie we have tried. They are also huge, so we cut them in thirds and enjoyed them for a full week.
These two products are honestly the best gluten-free versions this Examiner has come across and we highly suggest ordering them if they are not available in your area. Their products can be ordered online and would make great gifts and can be cut up and served as dessert at a party. No one will ever know they are gluten free and people will think they are homemade.
