Proacitv commercials air on the TV seemingly every day; and being an acne sufferer myself, it was almost embarrassing watching these 3-step system advertisements. The last thing we want to acknowledge while watching TV with our love interest is how we need to improve our skin problems, am I right?
After all, “What do you have to lose besides acne,” asks the bombshell celebrity Jessica Simpson. And just like many out there who wanted a chance at beauty, I gave it a try. Needless to say, the cons outweigh the pros for me.
Benzoyl Peroxide is the main acne buster in the system, and we must be careful with how we use it. It is very good at literally bringing out all the bacteria under your skin. It is to blame for the “purging” cycle: the dreaded “it –gets-worse-before-it-gets-better” part.
Therefore, my first con is how skipping just one day can cause more breakouts. This acne ingredient is pretty powerful; our skin becomes very dependent on it. Thus, stopping it caused my skin more irritation and inflammation. And since I already went through the purging cycle, I couldn’t stand dealing with more irritation.
The second and last con, in my opinion, is the way the cleanser doesn’t lather. Although it does do its job, it didn’t remove the dirt and makeup on my face. So, add in the time it took me to remove my makeup, it no longer took the “5 minutes” this regimen claims to consume.
Although I have two shortcomings from using this system, it does work for many others out there. For me, the importance of consistency, and the need of a makeup removing cleanser, outweighed the measly outcome I achieved. However, it is always worth a try, and I did just that. After all, what do we have to lose besides acne?
