After routing the New England Patriots at home on national TV in their third preseason game, it’s all downhill from here. Now, they head to Buffalo for their fourth preseason game. This is the game when the starters play the least, and the teams try and figure out the last few spots of their roster. Still, Thursday at 6:30 PM Eastern the Lions and the Bills to end the preseason. Winning, and remaining undefeated in the preseason, would be nice. Everybody staying healthy is much more important.
Guys like Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson will maybe play a drive or two. Jahvid Best is supposed to play a bit, but hopefully he only gets a handful of carries. That’s all he needs. Detroit’s other running backs, however, are still a mystery. In the end, I still expect Jerome Harrison to be the complement to Best. On defense, there aren’t really many questions about the starters, either.
In the end, we’ll mostly be watching Detroit’s backups play Buffalo’s backups. The Bills aren’t a very good team, so Detroit’s backups are probably better. That being said, there’s not a lot to get excited about with this game. Obviously, it’s the Lions playing football so there are reasons to watch. It’s just that at this point the start of the regular season is right around the corner and the preseason is basically perfunctory. Still, Thursday the Lions take on the Bills and will hope for a win, answers to their remaining questions, and that nobody gets hurt.
