The Police investigates if the arrested for the murder of the child of Lardero has to do with the death of a woman in 2020

A fingerprint in the home of a woman found dead with signs of violence in her Logroño home in October 2020 may be the key to linking three cases, two of them unsolved. The first, the so-called ‘real estate crime’ for which Francisco Javier Almeida was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The second, the aforementioned death last year, and the third – this Thursday, October 28 – the abduction of a child in a park in Lardero (La Rioja) and his subsequent murder, for which Almeida has been arrested again. The police are investigating similarities between that crime of the nineties and last year, whose investigation is still open.

The judge handling the October 2020 femicide case has asked for a fingerprint left unidentified at the crime scene to be matched to that of Almeida, who was arrested last week for killing a nine-year-old boy in Lardero. Almeida had been on parole since April 2020.

For its part, according to the attestation of the police to which El Confidencial has had access, the ‘modus operandi’ of the murder of the woman of Logroño bears similarities with that of the nineties.

At first, the line of suicide was the one that gained more strength in the case of October 2020, although later the investigation changed course and a person was arrested for an alleged sexist murder. According to these police sources, the detainee was the partner of the woman found dead. Now that suspect remains at large, according to LaRioja.com.

DNA comparison

The investigation into this crime is awaiting the comparison of an unidentified fingerprint found in the house, a building that had been under construction and which could pass through different workers.

The judge instructing this case has asked to be compared with the DNA of the detainee for killing a nine year old boy in Lardero, a repeat offender ex-convict who served time for murder and sexual assault known as ‘crime of real estate’ in 1998, in order to rule out any possible links.

According to the Government Delegation, the reason why this investigation was not reported is a consequence of the secrecy that was decreed for some proceedings that are still ongoing, with several open lines.
