Half of Spanish couples don’t have sex during menstruation even though sexual desire increases

Did you know that there is a menstrual cup with which you can have sex with total comfort? Well, it’s called Ziggy Cup and it will change your life. But first we tell you why we know so little about our sexuality in general.

It all comes together if we cross the results of a survey on what Spanish men really know about menstruation with a survey on female sexual behavior in Spain in which we analyze how women face sexuality at different stages of their menstrual cycle and ages.

The studies reveal that more than half of those surveyed have never had sex with their girl during menstruation because neither of them felt like it. On the other hand, 68% of Spanish women said they did not want to have sex with their period because they were embarrassed.

According to these results, it could be interpreted that, in Spain, sex during menstruation is still seen as a barrier for both men and women. A taboo that has always existed, in fact, most women believe that society still does not see menstruation as something natural, which makes it difficult to face the desire for sex during menstruation. And, although three out of 10 women would be willing to have sex using a menstrual cup, they are unaware of its existence.

A possible ally: the menstrual cup

For these cases, there are already products such as the Ziggy Cup from INTIMINA, designed specifically for penetrative sex, which prevent leakage and stains. The Ziggy Cup is a reusable extra flat menstrual cup that can be used during penetrative sex. Due to its innovative extra flat design, it is especially suitable for women with a low cervix and its double rim offers up to 8 hours of protection.

elDiario.es already launched a descriptive article on the menstrual cup where all the advantages of using any of its types instead of pads or tampons are explained in detail. Among others, that they are much cheaper, since you buy one for a small price, and while menstrual cups can last up to 10 years, the Ziggy lasts up to two years because it has thinner silicone.

But this one in particular comes with the added value of allowing women to enjoy a full sexuality 365 days a year, even though the vast majority of respondents claim to have a higher sex drive during ovulation.

“A full sexuality also translates into a better quality of life. The rule is no longer an impediment to sex and orgasms are pleasurable experiences that every woman should be allowed throughout the month, “says Pilar Ruiz, director of communication INTIMINA, the Swedish company specializing in intimate hygiene that has conducted these studies and has implemented with R & D the design of this special cup.

Made of biocompatible medical grade silicone and available in one size, it is an ultra soft and thin cup, super easy to store discreetly, that will not hurt either partner during intercourse.

Sex education is fundamental

Regarding sex education, Irene Aterido, sexologist and menstrual cycle expert and INTIMINA collaborator, points out the importance of talking openly about menstruation in couple relationships: “It is essential to deal with the subject without prejudice and to involve men in the positive and negative changes and implications of the menstrual cycle”.

In fact, the survey revealed that almost half of men still make comments about women’s moods when they have their periods, and the sexologist argues that “it is difficult for our partner to normalize issues related to menstruation if we ourselves see it as a taboo subject that we hide from him”.

What can we share with them?

Let’s start by telling them that women’s sexual appetite tends to vary according to the time of menstruation.the cycle they are in. For four out of 10 Spanish women, their libido is higher during ovulation, and about half of them rate their sexual desire as “average”. Something logical and biological, taking into account that, when a woman ovulates, she has a higher fertility to get pregnant.

Estrogens and luteinizing hormone start their revolution about 14 days after the first day of the period and, therefore, 14 days before the bleeding appears again, and that is when desire is at its peak.

Which does not mean that women do not feel desire the rest of the month, because, according to the aforementioned survey, beyond ovulation, almost half of Spanish women have greater sexual desire during menstruation, although only 32% have sex.

But it is that, in addition, it is given the circumstance that sex during menstruation is highly recommended because, with stimulation, oxytocin levels in the body increase, causing the pituitary gland to pump endorphins that dampen any pain you may feel. So if you’ve been thinking for some time about having sex during menstruation but spotting is holding you back, you can count on Ziggy Cup.
