After weeks and weeks of largely agreeing with some of the decisions made by the judges on “Platinum Hit,” this one is a bit of a mystery. Despite having some of the worst lyrics in the competition, Jes was appointed to join Scotty and Sonyae in the final three minus Nick.
This is not a knock of the girl’s vocal talent — as she is sensational — so much as it is history. The Johnny incident from a few weeks ago seemed to do Nick in, and the judges likely felt they could not have a winner for this competition that refused to perform a song.
The challenge this week was to come up with a song to perform in front of the Santa Monica High School crowd, and then they voted on the winner. After hearing the kids’ reactions to each song, it seemed Scotty would be the winner — however, they opted for Sonyae likely due to her having the most obvious theme (in “exit”) of the group. As a pure listener, though, I would have likely placed the songs like this:
- Scotty (mainly because we already have “‘Til the World Ends”)
We never found out how the students voted on the other three songs, with us instead seeing Nick ending up saying goodbye to the show. While he was not the strongest contestant lyrically (and he won’t win any awards for kindness), he actually did feel like the guy who could take almost any song to the next level if utilized properly.
Are you sad to see Nick go in any way? If you haven’t seen my recent interview with Sonyae about the show, you can view it here.
