Times Square is the iconic epicenter of New York City. Although NY Getaways Examiner and other New Yorkers actively try to avoid the area, tourists flock year-round to the midtown district for Broadway shows, shops, and restaurants. A stay at the InterContinental New York Times Square, however, gives visitors and locals alike a reason to both explore Times Square and escape from it.
NY Getaways Examiner enjoyed a two-night stay at the hotel, which is centrally located on 44th Street and Eighth Avenue just west of Times Square in the heart of the theater district. The 36-story luxury hotel boasts over 600 guest rooms designed to feel like a chic, Manhattan residence. Panoramic Avenue Suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows that offer dynamic views of the New York City skyline. The oversized bathrooms mimic a spa experience with walk-in rain showers accentuated by shimmering, midnight blue tile. Making it appealing to business and leisure travelers alike, all rooms have a desk work space and a 42-inch HD flat screen TV.
Located at the top of the hotel, the three-bedroom 2,700 square-foot, bi-level Penthouse is one of the most sophisticated rooms we’ve ever seen. Columns paneled in wood and Mother of Pearl frame the floor-to-ceiling panoramic city views. The living room features a fireplace and separate den area. A grand staircase leads to the second floor master bedroom with its own fireplace and master bath featuring a free-standing sculptured tub and sliding glass doors that open to the vista of the city. The Penthouse space is ideal for an intimate wedding reception or cocktail party.
The hotel recently celebrated its one year anniversary with a party in Ca Va, a new French brasserie helmed by celebrity chef, Todd English. Designed by architect Jeffrey Beers, the restaurant reflects the cosmopolitan energy of Paris with neutral colors, warm woods, textured leathers, and rustic stones set against lacquered millwork. Custom created artwork and sculptures enliven the space.
Ca Va seats 56 diners and has offers a private dining room that overlooks a courtyard garden. The menu offers a la carte options as well as Chef English’s signature, prix-fix family-style menu. Menu standouts include the truffle macaroni and cheese and scallops with risotto.
The Ca Va Lounge is a swanky spot to sip a signature cocktail and nosh on Brasserie Bar Bites. For breakfast or lunch on the go, guests can grab a savory snack from Ca Va Marche adjacent to the lobby.
