The Pilsung ATA Leadership School Supply Drive officially begins TODAY! Over the next month students and family members will be collecting basic school supplies to help the less fortunate from ten Greenwood area School Systems.
At Pilsung ATA Martial Arts July is “Citizenship Month”. As part of the normal training each student receives the Instructors and Staff work hard to include “Life Lessons”. These lessons change monthly and range from Courtesy and Respect to Self-Control and Compassion. For the month of July the Life Skill theme is Citizenship.
Each class includes drills and exercises that promote citizenship as well as discussions that help the students understand what it means to be a “good citizen”. As an extra effort to promote good citizenship and provide a “teaching moment” the staff of Pilsung has organized a School Supply Drive. While the staff of Pilsung has organized the effort and contacted the principals of the “target schools”, the students will be leading the effort to collect the badly needed materials. The students of the Pilsung Leadership Club will be organizing teams, including both fellow martial artists and members from their neighborhoods, to help generate more donations. This challenge is designed to not only help the local community and school systems, but also “stretch” the reach of the Leadership Students as they learn how to organize and lead their donation teams.
Schools currently Included in the drive:
Pleasant Crossing Elementary
Clark-Pleasant Middle School
Sawmill Woods Elementary
Center Grove Middle School
Our Lady of the Greenwood School
V.O. Isom Elementary
South Creek Elementary
Greenwood Middle School
The kick-off for the Pilsung School Supply Drive is tonight, July 6th, with donations being accepted through the end of July. All donated supplies will be delivered to the designated schools in early August. The schools were chosen from about 20 local schools based on students common to both the recipient school and Pilsung ATA Martial Arts. The students organizing the teams have extra incentive, not only will they be doing good for their community, they will also be competing to win a pizza party for their team!
Good luck to the Pilsung Leadership Students and their efforts to help their schools and community!
