Cutest Pet Contest: This contest is open to amateurs only with the goal of finding the cutest pet photos to publish in an annual book. The contest continues year-round with each quarter boasting two semi-finalists with all eight semi-finalists going on for the grand prize of $1000. The best 1,000 photos are included in the yearly publication; however, if you submit an entry, be warned that the contest organization has the right to use your photo on their merchandise, such as mugs and t-shirts without giving you credit on the actual merchandise.
Martha Stewart Living: This well-branded contest asks for photos of your adopted pet. The deadline is July 31 for the current contest, but new contests pop up throughout each year. There are no set rules stated for the contest entries, but, judging by the submitted photos, it is open to amateurs.
Humane Society: The Spay Day Photo Contest is a yearly event that boasts amazing pet photographs in celebration of the February date that encourages owners to spay or neuter to reduce overpopulation. You are not limited to one entry, but there are limitations to which pets qualify; however, the list encloses most common household and farm animals. Prizes vary from year to year but are well worth the time necessary to enter the contest.
AAA Travel Photos: Sponsored by AAA and Best Western, this contest wants entries of your favorite travel moment with your pet. Among monetary prizes, the winning photos will also be featured in the AAA PetBook. Entries are judged based on artistic skills with a preference shown for candid photos rather than posed ones.
ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) sponsors a new category of photo contests every year, including past categories of The Best-Dressed Dogs of 2008 and the 2011 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, with the majority of contests specifying whether they are seeking entries of dogs or cats. Amateurs are welcome to apply.
Modern Dog Magazine: Brought to us by a modern twist on reading for dog lovers, this contest is weekly, offering a chance for the winning photo to appear in the magazine. You may enter as many entries as you like, and the winner is decided by online voting. In other words, recruit voters via social media sites! And, as expected, you grant all rights of use of your photo to the magazine upon submission.
Orvis (dogs only): In addition to other items, Orvis sells many dog products and hosts a contest searching for the best dog photos to include on the cover of their catalogs. Additionally, the finalist will take home a $500 Orvis Gift Card. But what makes this contest awesome is that it partners with an effort to raise money for canine cancer research. To date, the company has raised more than $300,000 for their cause.
