Los Angeles, August 27th, 2011. Superstar blogger, musical tastemaker and Queen of all Media, Perez Hilton, is returning to Los Angeles with his international “One Night In…” concert series. Timed around the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and presented by CARRERA, Perez’s wildly successful event took place at the Wiltern Theatre with eight exceptional artists on the stage and six solid hours of great music and talent. All of the headliners for the event are personally selected by Perez Hilton, reflecting his unique, diverse musical taste and included Natalia Kills, Gavin DeGraw, Busta Rhymes, The Veronicas, JoJo, Michelle Branch, Far East Movement and surprise appearance by Demi Lovato, who performed 2 ballads and left the audience wanting more. All of the money raised from ticket sales went to GLSEN, the Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network.
Perez Hilton spent all his time on the carpet and taking care of his celebreity guests backstage and in the VIP room. He even made some exclusive comments on Will and Jada Smith: “It looks like the news of the connection between Jada and Mark Anthony may have been originated in J Lo‘s office”.
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick enjoyed a casual family fun night as they showed up just in time for a live performance by Gavin DeGraw. As Gavin took the stage, the celebrity couple snuck in the back to the VIP section to enjoy the show with daughter Sosie and son Travis. After the performance, the family rushed backstage to meet the Gavin.
Still on the mend from his recent attack in New York, Gavin DeGraw was particularly generous with fans performing six of his well-known hits. He also spent time answering media questions about what had happened and how he was feeling. When he first arrived he told friends that he was “alright” after spending the past couple weeks with bags of ice on his face. Gavin ran into The All-American Rejects’ singer Tyson Ritter who was thrilled to see his fellow musician’s improved condition. After a rock star performance, Gavin was overheard backstage telling Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick that the attack was completely unexpected; as he said, “It was random. It’s not like I was chatting with the debate team and looking for a fight.” Needless to say, both his fan and fellow artists were all happy to see Gavin on stage again after his recent trauma.
Lisa Gastineau was overheard telling Linda Hogan and her fiancé Charlie Hill that the best part about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries wedding was the music because they played everything from Pitbull to Frank Sinatra. Lisa said Kim and Kris were made for each other and truly knew how to throw a great party. “Kris can handle Kim. He has a strong sense of self. He was designed for her.” she said.
JoJo and her band were among the first to arrive at the Wiltern Theater Saturday night. After a quick sound check, the pop singer changed into a purple party dress to visit the VIP suite before heading to the red carpet where she ran into Backstreet Boy’s A.J. McLean. On the carpet, the two stars were shared their advice for those artists who are just getting into the industry – JoJo admitted that everyone seems to be “doing amazing on their own” and didn’t need her advice; A.J. said he’d tell them to “get a lawyer and stay true to yourself.” Both JoJo and A.J. stopped to sign the popchips guitar for GLSEN while chatting about their tattoos – A.J. was surprised to hear about the state of Massachusetts tattooed on JoJo’s ribcage and made sure to grab a spot stage-front for JoJo’s performance.
After their vibrant performance, Far East Movement members joined the audience next to the stage to enjoy the performance by the faster rapper in history, Busta Rhymes. At 2:00AM the audience at the packed Wiltern theater was screaming and cheering with Busta on the stage – nobody wanted to go home!
