Our friend Lynda Bruton invited us to join her at Disney’s California Adventure to experience their newest addition, the recently opened Paradise Garden Bandstand so we could all listen to Sligo Rags. When she mentioned that the newly opened Paradise Garden Grill restaurant served a Greek Salad, I was hooked. I’d been looking forward to listening to Sligo Rags ever since I’d met Michael Kelly and enjoyed his Celtic music. Now we got to enjoy his whole group, Sligo Rags, perform at this lovely new dining area in California Adventure. The Paradise Garden Grill is the new restaurant directly behind the bandstand.
It ended up being a perfect day, sunny, warm but not too hot, with a light breeze. Add to this my favorite way to enjoy a warm day, shade trees and live entertainment. We listened to a set by Sligo Rags shortly after we arrived at 4:15 PM. During their break, we ordered our late lunch. As I had my iced tea with me, I don’t know if they had fresh brewed. However, Dorothy did order a Coke, $2.99.
Lemon-Oregano Chicken Mediterranean Skewer, $10.99
Dorothy chose the Mediterranean Skewer. The skewers come with rice pilaf, cucumber salad and pita bread. Then you pick your favorite meat. She selected the Lemon-Oregano Chicken. Finally you choose your sauce. As she wasn’t sure which she was going to like, they gave Dorothy both the Chimichurri and the Tzatsiki sauces. The Chimichurri is made with fresh herbs, citrus, garlic and olive oil while the Tzatsiki blends cucumbers, garlic, lemon juice and Greek yogurt.
The chicken was nicely grilled yet moist enough to be really good. It has a delightfully sharp lemon tang to it. Dorothy found that she liked both of the sauces.
Greek Salad, $7.99
I got the Greek Salad, which I came there to enjoy. It had tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, pepperoncini, marinated olives, and feta on a bed of fresh greens. The dressing was lemon-oregano. I normally avoid wheat flour so I left my pita bread. I thoroughly enjoyed this salad and expect to have it again.
This was a unique casual dining experience. Being in the Disneyland Resort, it is definitely a family restaurant. There are covered places to eat there during showers. Fortunately for us, it was the perfect Southern California day, which made it ideal to sit outside under a shade tree, listen to live entertainment by Sligo Rags and enjoy a delicious salad. What was really unexpected was that we got to eat with normal knives and forks as well as cloth napkins. This added a touch of class to our outdoor dining.
The Disneyland Resort did a great job with this addition to California Adventure. It’s just past the new Ariel’s Undersea Adventure ride before you get to the boardwalk. The Paradise Garden Grill is a refreshing place to eat with good food and a wonder environment in which to enjoy it. If you are lucky, you will even get to relax to live entertainment. This Mediterranean restaurant rates four stars easily.
