Join Operation Kindness when they break ground for a 2,000 square foot dog kennel on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. This kennel is dedicated exclusively for large breed dogs that generally take longer to find forever homes. A generous $250,000 donation from Norma and Jack Carney of Dallas made this special shelter possible.
Named after the Carney’s dog, Bear, who was adopted from Operation Kindness in 2004, the new addition is affectionately named Bear’s Den. This shelter will double the capacity with 30 large dog runs. Bear’s Den will help increase the capacity for dogs of all sizes by at least 50 percent. The kennel will provide noise and disease control and air-conditioning allowing the dogs more at ease in their home.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to provide a second chance for even more homeless dogs in our community,” said Sherwin Daryani, Operation Kindness Executive Director. Ms. Daryani went on to share that the new facility will save thousands of lives. Based in Carrolton, Texas Operation Kindness is a no-kill shelter that has saved more than 68,000 animals since 1976.
Operation Kindness funding comes from individual and business donations, adoptions and fundraising events. Their annual fundraising event “Canines, Cats & Cabernet” will be at the Marriott Legacy Town Center in Plano. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 13th from 4 p.m.—7 p.m. They have delightful auctions with unusual items like Salvador Dali etchings, handmade doggie quilts, paintings, fine wines, trips and more. Beautiful adoptable pets will be on hand as well as guest speakers, wine and delicious d’oeuvres.
Operation Kindness also has outreach events such as the recent Bachelor Auction at VISIONS: The Women’s Expo last spring (see slideshow). Some of the bachelors offered golf lessons, an art museum tour, dance lessons, landscaping expertise and an exclusive after hours tour of Operation Kindness and dinner. All the proceeds went to the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. VISIONS: The Women’s Expo will be held again on September 24-25 at Market Hall in Dallas.
