Already have a “baby” but expecting another one soon? As humans, we tend to treat our pets like our little babies. So how does one prepare their first “baby” for the surprising day the real deal comes home? The first step someone could take and probably one of the wisest is familiarize the animal with the new smells that come with a baby. These smells include baby powder, lotions, wipes, diapers and so on. One way to do this is use products like baby powder, oils and lotions daily. The second step is have the husband get the animal a little more attached to him. The reason behind this is that this will all happen so fast for the animal, if the animal is always used to being with one person and now is getting rejected it will start to act out. If someone else there to help with the animal, then it will be used to not getting all the usual time with the person it is used to and it knows it has someone else to love on. The final step for preparing an animal for the new joy that will soon enter its life is setting new boundaries and following through. Setting new boundaries is not only a very important thing to do for safety of the baby but also for the animal itself. If the animal is used to jumping on ones lap and does it when baby is home, it could seriously injure the baby. The safety of the animal is also at hand because with a baby comes weird shaped and unstable objects that the animal could climb on or jump on and injure themself. Keeping the animal off and away from cribs, couches, blankets and other baby places and objects will help keep every living being safe. Knowing these steps and following through will help keep everyone safe and happy, so mom and dad can enjoy their new bundle of joy and the love of their first “baby” forever.
