The Salem County Fair, established in 1959, grants every frugal parent’s wish – a free festival that does not include expensive rides & carnival games, but still offers a ton of fun activities for the whole family!
The fair, which takes place August 9th through the 12th, will be held at the Salem County Fairgrounds in nearby Woodstown, NJ. Admission is free, although there is a $5 parking fee that covers all four days of the fair.
The theme of this year’s fair is “An Old Time Country Fair”, featuring old-fashioned fair activities, such as tractor pulls, daily livestock shows, & the Miss Salem County Fair competition. Additional activities include daily pony rides from 4 pm until 9 pm, hot air balloon rides from 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday & Wednesday, & nightly kiddie tractor pulls for children ages 4 through 10. The fair also hosts a nightly BBQ dinner, featuring a different entrée each night, and a nightly Pig Scramble show at 8 pm from Wednesday through Friday. A fireworks display is scheduled for 9:15 pm on Thursday, August 11th, with a rain date of Friday, August 12th.
Live musical entertainment will be available every evening at 7 or 7:15 pm. At 7:15 pm on Friday, August 12th, the Salem County Fair will feature its Parade of Champions. Many other activities are available for your enjoyment, such as animal shows, live demonstrations, & contests, such as the largest tomato contest & ice-cream making competition.
The Salem County Fair will be held at the Salem County Fairgrounds at 735 Route 40 Woodstown, NJ. From the Delaware Memorial Bridge, take 40 East for approximately 7 miles & the fair will be on the left. More information about this event can be found at www.salemcountyfair.com.
