If you are not familiar with Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill here is a little background information. Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill started in 1946 by Gerald and Elisabeth Blake and their thirteen children. To this day the company is still family owned and operated; fueled by strong family traditions and a commitment to excellence. Their historic farm is one of the very first “Pick Your Own” orchards in Michigan. The Blake’s have expanded their operation to three separate locations with over 500 acres of orchard and farmland. At Blake’s you can pick apples, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, pumpkins, and assorted vegetables. During the winter months you can cut your own Christmas tree. The Orchard & Cider Mill are known for their award winning apple cider and have been voted the number one apple orchard in Michigan.
The Michigan Lavender Festival is the brainchild of Jennifer Vasich who loves to cook with lavender and herbs. She is the founder of the Michigan Lavender Festival, and the author of The Lavender Gourmet. Ms. Vasoch is a popular teacher at community libraries and garden groups due to her vast knowledge of lavender and natural healing. This year Jennifer was a featured guest speaker at various lavender festivals including the Ojai Valley Lavender Festival in California and the Pennsylvania Lavender Festival.
At this year’s festival you can relax while enjoying lunch in the shade and sip on a glass of ice cold Lavender Lemonade. Celebrate the “Grandmother of Herbs” with a series of workshops, demonstrations, cooking with Lavender classes & more.
This event is a celebration of the wonderful thing you can do with Lavender, while bringing together local, talented artisans selling hand-made goods. This is a Made-In-Michigan event that features over 80 Michigan artists, craftspeople and local area farms.
New this year at Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill is a field of lavender available for festival goers to pick. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 admitted free. Paid admission allows festival attendees entrance to all classes and demonstrations.
