We all know that Fox McCloud is Nintendo’s resident ace pilot, but there are two ways you can fly like him.
The first would be to pick up a copy of Pilotwings Resort, where you– or your Mii, at least– can fly around Wuhu Island in a not-unlike Star Fox plane or jet. Of course, there is also Star Fox 64 3D, but then, that’s still “Fox” flying, isn’t it?
Semantics aside, the other way to do so is to enter Nintendo’s new “Fly Like Fox” Star Fox 64 3D contest, where the winner gets to participate in “a real-life fighter-pilot experience at Air Combat USA in Fullerton, California!”
“Just like Fox McCloud and his team in the classic remake for Nintendo 3DS, the winner and a friend will experience the thrill and excitement of flying a light attack fighter in air-to-air combat. After a briefing by an Air Combat USA Pilot in the basics of Tactical Fighter Maneuvers, they will engage in multiple g-pulling dogfights, experiencing the fierce aerial combat of the game in real life! The flight experience will be recorded and they will be debriefed post flight.”
The contest opens today, August 15th, 2011, and runs until November 7th, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. PT, and is only open to residents of the United States and Canada who are over the age of 14. Except Quebec, of course.
One winner from each country will each be the recipient of “a grand prize trip package consisting of a ‘Basic Air Combat Maneuvers for 2’ aerial combat lesson for the winner and their guest at Air Combat USA, a video of the flight experience, two nights’ accommodations in Fullerton, California, two round-trip airplane tickets, and $500 spending money.”
The total approximate retail value of the trip? $5,800 Canadian.
So, how does one get in on this? It’s quite simple, actually… at least, if you’re on Facebook.
Just head over to www.flylikefox.com, which redirects you to the contest page on Facebook and select your country of residence. After possibly jumping through whatever hoops Facebook has for you (allowing a connection to your account, secure browsing, etc.), you must make sure to “Like” the Nintendo 3DS page in order to be eligible. You’ll be given a chance to do so right on the entry form, if you are not already.
From there, just fill out the details on the form, and you’re in! Plus, if you’d like to try hedging your bets, you can spread word of the contest to your friends so they can enter as well. Who knows? Maybe they’ll win, and you’ll be the “friend” they take along for the ride.
Curiously enough, you must agree to having read the official rules to enter, but the page for the official rules itself does not seem to work (as of this writing).
Once that is done, you’ll automatically be sent to the official Star Fox 64 3D website, where you can pre-order the game before its September 9th release and check out a video of the game in action (minus the 3D effects, of course).
Good luck to those who enter, and if you would like more information about Air Combat USA, visit http://aircombatusa.com/index.php.
