For Nicolas Cage’s next project, the actor will track a serial killer in the upcoming film “Frozen Ground.”
The Long Beach native will play a cop while co-star John Cusack will play the serial killer Robert Hansen.
The film is based on a true story. Hansen allegedly murdered at least 17 women near Anchorage in the ‘70s and ‘80s by abducting them, releasing them in a desolate area and then hunting them.
Hansen was arrested after a 17-year-old escaped and informed the police. (In the movie, Cage finds the girl on the street and works with her to track down Hansen.) He was charged with four murders and sentenced to 461 years in jail.
Although Hansen confessed to killing 17 women, it was believed that he murdered up to 21. Hansen, now 72, is serving his sentence at Spring Creek Correctional Center.
Filming will begin in Alaska in October. Scott Walker is director and writer of the film, who will work with producers Randall Emmett (“Rambo”) and Mark Ordesky (“Lord of the Rings” trilogy). There are reports that rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will be one of multiple executive producers.
Cage’s other upcoming film is “Trespass,” which also stars Nicole Kidman, Ben Mendelsohn and Cam Gigandet. Cage and Kidman star as husband and wife who are taken hostage by extortionists. The movie will hit limited theaters and video on demand on October 14.
