If you have the perception that all icons and celebrities live only for the fame and fortune, you’re wrong. If one were to judge all high profile entertainers, athletes, and politicians by negative publicity generated by celebs like Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton you would think that no one in Hollywood, the sports world or political arena had good morals.
Thankfully there are some high profile celebrities that feel they have an obligation to use their talent for more than just making money- they give back to society. A new and refreshing TV show, Icon News will premier this Fall on Dish TV, CBS and Tuff TV. Unlike shows like TMZ that focus on negative reports and gossip of the rich and famous, Icon News showcase the good things these celebrities are doing.
The show is produced and hosted by Lew Marklin, former host of comedy sketch program, ADHDtv. Lew is also known for his tireless efforts as an advocate for many humanitarian organizations including, Make a Wish Foundation, One.org, RFB&D, Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society.
Asked why did he name is new show “Icon News”, Lew explained his good friend and Lew Marklin show partner, Eugean Smith came up with the original idea. The concept of merging a computer desk top “Icon” with the internet in a television news-commentary show format struck a chord with Marklin.
As noted earlier, rather than be like all the other entertainment news TV shows who report on current events, Lew decided to produce a show that uncovers the real, down-to-earth side of celebrities and iconic pop stars. Using Skype to capture his guest in their everyday environment instead of a lavish Hollywood studio, with makeup artists, he is able to motivate his guests to share their lives, journeys and obstacles. More importantly, these high profile entertainers reveal what they are doing to make a positive contribution to a society that oftentimes worships them.
Icon News’ shows will feature among others emerging star Dominic Rains on his breakout roles in “Taqwacores” and “Jinn” which centers on a high tech good versus evil theme with a fire-breathing car. Adding a touch of elegance to the show is Sheri Nadel who is known for her red carpet correspondence on the Oscars, Grammy’s and Emmy’s and is a fashion expert. Sheri will have a red carpet segment on the show.
Icon News’ Skype-centered format is unprecedented and is the first show of its kind. Marklin recognized the power of the internet wanted his viewers to have the feeling they are on a Skype call with a world renowned public figure.
Like the celebrity guests he interviews, Marklin is using his creative genius for a higher purpose. He recently became a board member of former MCA Records president, Pat Melfi’s record label, Conscious Music. Melfi’s credits also include co-producing We Are the World, Farm Aid and Hands Across America to raise awareness to children’s rights issues around the world including abuse, bullying and trafficking. They are teaming up with Senator Orren Hatch, NFL players, Hank Williams Jr, Kenny G and many others to bring awareness and directly challenge the music industry to stop putting out music artists and content that undermine the parent’s ability to raise their children correctly and make a better future!
Icon News premiers this Fall. The show is very innovative and a direct reflection of the times that we are living in. Television fans get tired of the entertainment news shows that only report the negative side of icons and celebrities. Thank God for forward thinking TV show producers like Lew Marklin.
