As if the four day culinary blitz that will be The Taste didn’t have enough going for it already, another very special wine seminar has been added to the Saturday program in Beverly Hills. From 11:30 am-12:45 pm, LA’s preeminent wine educator, Ian Blackburn, Owner of Learn About Wine, will moderate “Paso Robles Pioneers”, a panel consisting of some of the Central Coast’s greatest innovators and a tasting of 6 of their wines.
Janell Dusi, Owner and Winemaker of J. Dusi Wines has a proud family heritage of winemaking. In the early 1920s, her great-grandparents settled in Paso, and were involved in many local businesses, including vineyards. In 1945, her grandfather, Dante, and his two brothers were trailblazers in the region, when they planted Zinfandel. Under Janell’s leadership, this family venture is still going strong, producing award-winning, silky-textured, well-balanced, old vines Zins.
Justin Baldwin, Founder JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, a former investment and international banker, entered the winemaking business in 1981, when he purchased 160 acres west of Paso. His mission was to make world class Bordeaux blends, and succeed he has. Accolades have been flowing in ever since he started, including being named one of Wine Spectator’s Top 10 Wines of the World.
Jason Haas, General Manager Tablas Creek Vineyards, is the second generation of Haas at Tablas. The winery was born in 1987 from a shared desire of his father, Robert Haas, whose Vineyard Brands has imported some of France’s finest wines, and the owners of the illustrious Chateau de Beaucastel, the Perrin family, to produce estate-bottled Chateauneuf-du-Pape style wines in the New World. Vines were imported from the same genetic source as those at Beaucastel and planted on 120 acres to the north and west of Paso. Good instincts, because their Esprit de Beaucastel, based on Mourvedre, and the Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc, based on Roussane, capture the spirit of what a great Rhone can be.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and taste what makes our Central Coast one of the most exciting wine regions today.
