Science fiction author Cherie Priest continues to draw readers in to her steampunk world of zombies and zeppelins with the fourth installment of her Clockwork Century series, Ganymede. Like the first three novels, Boneshaker, Clementine, and Dreadnought, Ganymede is titled for a giant steampunk machine around which the plot revolves.
Read my reviews of Cherie Priest’s Boneshaker and Dreadnought.
In Ganymede, rogue zeppelin captain Andan Cly returns! The giant of a man who first gained the love of fans in Boneshaker above the zombie-filled streets of Civil War-era Seattle is trying to redeem himself for his past sins. He quits the sap-running trade and heads to New Orleans to pick up some much-needed cargo for Seattle. But in the Big Easy, he runs into a woman from his past, Josephine Early. The beautiful and deadly Josephine is a madame in New Orleans, and on top of that, she’s a Union spy. Josephine gives Andan Cly an offer he can’t refuse: To commandeer the Confederacy’s giant prototype submarine, the Ganymede, and deliver it to Yankee forces. The catch? Nobody knows how to pilot the sub… and most die trying.
Ganymede will hit bookstores on September 27th, 2011. Fans of Cherie Priest have come to love her books for the fast-paced action, riveting plots, and colorful characters. The Clockwork Century series is set in an alternate history, in which the Civil War has lasted for twenty years and a mysterious danger is threatening to overtake the country. That threat? Zombies, of course. Drug-induced, freakishly fast, horrific zombies.
If Ganymede is anything like Boneshaker, Dreadnought, or the little-known Clementine, it will be a riveting adventure story full of monsters, mayhem, intrigue, and period charm. Buckle up for the Ganymede‘s maiden voyage, steampunk fans: It’s going to be a bumpy ride.
