Recreational aircraft taking off from Carroll County Airport, Bay Bridge Airport or other places around here may get subject to new consensus standards. The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking public comment on revising the standards for light sport aircraft.
FAA is taking comments on the Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft rule revisions until September 27.
FAA is proposing one new standard and revising two others. It generally reviews standards biennially.
The agency works with ASTM International to develop voluntary safety standards.
It is reopening a comment period. No one commented last fall when it first proposed the revisions.
Manufacturers who meet the standards are given an airworthiness certificate. The current standards expire November 11.
