Fall TV is slowly approaching, and to help make sense of all the new television drama programs that are coming out, articles will be posted here detailing the new shows for each network. Grimm is a new supernatural show that will premieres on Friday October 21st at 8.The official description of Grimm is as follows: “Grimm is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, Turn The Beat Around) discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as ‘Grimms,’ charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.” The preview of Grimm is very intriguing. Buffy and Angel fans should instantly gravitate towards this due to the fact that David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf are writers and executive producers of the show, so they know their supernatural creatures as well as how to put on a good show! In addition to being a supernatural show, Grimm is also a procedural cop show, which is an interesting twist. Grimm is definitely one to watch. Prime Suspect is another new NBC show that will premiere on Thursday September 22 at 9. Here is part of the official description of the show: “From Emmy Award-nominated producers Peter Berg (NBC’s Friday Night Lights) and Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives) comes the crime drama Prime Suspect that takes a look inside a New York City homicide department. The series stars Maria Bello (A History of Violence) as tough-as-nails NYPD homicide Detective Jane Timoney, an outsider who has just transferred to a new squad where her new colleagues already dislike her.” Based off the preview for the show, this seems to be a typical cop drama that tries to set itself apart by focusing on a girl (Jane) in an all boys club that happens to be the homicide department. Now does this do enough to separate itself from other cop shows and make you want to watch? Personally, it doesn’t. What about you? Are you looking forward to this? Tell me why in a comment!
And then there is The Playboy Club which premieres Monday September 19th at 9. The show’s official description is as follows: “It’s the early 1960s, and at the center of Chicago lies the legendary and seductive Playboy Club, a living, breathing fantasy world filled with $1.50 cocktails, music, glitter and of course, beautiful Bunnies. The key to the club, which offers the ultimate in beauty, is the most sought-after status symbol of its time. But all that glitters isn’t gold, and in the back rooms and alleys behind the club, life happens – both good and bad.” Based off the preview, this show definitely has a Mad Men type vibe, meaning that it aims to highlight a specific time period. Now this may instantly draw some viewers, but for others, not so much. Characters will probably be the drive of the series, but it is unclear what the over arching theme or element will be, maybe a murder mystery or something along those lines.
