Lululemon Athletica is at it again. You might remember the “We Do Yoga” event at Maymont Park this summer, which drew more than 200 yogis and yoginis in an effort to bring Richmond’s yoga community together for the first time. Imagine the energy of that day, all over the world, with the upcoming recognition of “Salutation Nation.”
“Salutation Nation” is an annual, international day of yoga. Dana Walters, local yoga instructor and co-founder of Project Yoga Richmond, will lead Richmond’s celebration from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Deep Run Park (beside the pond). Yogis all over the world will participate at the same time in their respective time zones. Amanda Casgar, Regional Community Guru at Lululemon, says to “think of it as a never-ending OM.”
More than 100 participants are expected at Richmond’s “Salutation Nation.” Attendees are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, a mat or beach towel, and positive thoughts for good weather. The complimentary class is open to all levels!
“We Do Yoga” was a success in creating a better network among local teachers, studios, and students, and “Salutation Nation” is surely another step to a more cohesive community. The event is a true example of a favorite Sanskrit mantra, “Loka samasta sukhino bhavantu,” loosely meaning “May all beings in the world be happy and free.”
