Ndamukong Suh is a great player. He’s already one of the best, and perhaps the best, defensive tackle in the NFL. He’s also shown a propensity to get a bit too agressive from time to time. Last preseason, he was fined $7,500 for throwing Jake Delhomme to the ground in a violent fashion, and deservedly so. Then, he was fined $15,000 for a hit on Jay Cutler, which was quite ridiculous. Now, he’s been hit with a $20,000 fine for a hit on Andy Dalton.
Unlike the Cutler hit, this time Suh was rightfully fined. Dalton had lost his helmet, the play was over, and Suh slammed him to the ground. As a repeat offender, Suh was given a hefty fine, although he can certainly afford it, since he got his rookie contract in before the lockout changed things.
It’s good that Suh is aggressive and wants to be a dominant force. However, he needs to be more careful. Not to protect his bank account, but to protect the Lions. This hits turn into penalties which end up hurting Detroit. If Suh keeps crossing the line like this, he’s going to rack up 15-yard penalties, and that is always bad. The Lions are a team on the rise and Suh is a huge reason for that, but his game isn’t perfect. Suh’s aggression has led to a hefty fine once again. Hopefully it will be the last time.
