Saturday morning, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi engaged in more of her trademark hyperbole on the House floor when she compared Speaker John Boehner to Darth Vader.
Fox Nation reports:
Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi lost her composure during a long rant on the House Floor Saturday, refusing to yield her time before accusing House Speaker John Boehner of going over “to the dark side.”
Pelosi made her remarks during the debate over a bill proposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Politico reports that Pelosi made the “Stars Wars” reference in response to Boehner’s courting the more conservative members of his caucus “rather than work on a bipartisan compromise.”
The comments caused a firestorm on the floor of the House as Rep. David Dreier (R-CA) attempted to get Pelosi to yield.
“I will not yield,” she said, and proceeded to continue her character assassination of Boehner.
According to Fox:
Democrats then tried to shout down Dreier after he called for civility and civil discourse. He also said some Republicans had asked that Pelosi’s words be taken down — alleging that she had broached decorum in the House with her language.
House rules prohibit personal attacks against representatives on the floor, especially when that language may impugn the integrity or motives of another member.
But Pelosi didn’t care.
Guy Benson wrote at Townhall that Pelosi falsely claimed that Republicans are trying to destroy “the air our children breathe,” the same false claim she made earlier in the week when speaking to union supporters.
Throughout the crisis, Pelosi has offered absolutely nothing but shrill demagogery and hyperpartisan idiocy.
According to Pelosi, the Republicans want to starve seniors and force everyone to consume poisoned food. One must also remember this is the same Nancy Pelosi who famously told America Obamacare had to be passed before anyone could find out what was in it.
Boehner spokesman Michael Steele issued a statement regarding Pelosi’s remarks:
“Speaker Boehner’s long-standing support for a Balanced Budget Amendment has nothing to do with Darth Vader,” he said.
Despite Pelosi’s harangue, Reid’s bill failed in the House 173 – 246, with 11 Democrats joining the Republicans in voting “no.”
Though Democrats stuck together to reject Boehner’s plan on Friday, eleven Democrats broke off and joined Republicans to shoot down Reid’s plan on the debt ceiling. They were Reps. John Barrow (Ga.), Dan Boren (Okla.), Bruce Braley (Iowa), Dave Loebsack (Iowa), Jim Matheson (Utah), Mike McIntyre (N.C.), Collin Peterson (Minn.), Mike Ross (Ark.), Kurt Schrader (Ore.), Peter Visclosky (Ind.) and David Wu (Ore.)
