The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards went down as HISTORICAL in my book last night. Of course the most talked about topic Beyonce’s baby bump announcement was the icing on the cake for a night of pure entertainment. Lady Gaga showed us her male side literally, while Adele blew us away with her powerful voice. Then, let us not forget the blazing hot fire performance from Jay-Z and Kanye with “Otis,” Chris Brown’s dance moves, and Lil Wayne’s rock side.
Here are my top MTV VMA top Moments and Performances
1. Beyonce announcing her pregnancy
This was an historical performance for Beyonce when she performed her track for her latest album called “Love on Top.” Beyonce seemed to be so happy and glowing. At the end of this performance she revealed a BIG surprise by unbuttoning her sequenced purple jacket and exposing her pregnant belly with a rub for all the world to say. Then, of course the cameras zoomed in on Jay Z and Kanye who were smiling hard, jumping and beaming for joy. Beyonce for sure stole the show and it was hard to focus the rest of the night with the baby news!
2. Lady Gaga as a man
The opening of the show was quite interesting with a new male character Lady Gaga introduced the world too. He/She ‘s name is Joe Calderon. ( He reminded of John Travolta’s Grease character). She even managed to take us threw the blues with a performance of “You and I.” Also, I thought maybe this could be a crack at Bruno Mars since the camera seemed to cue in on him.
3. Chris Brown’s performance
Chris Brown’s performance was EPIC! He is a dancing machine and he delivers every time he rocks a stage. He had everyone’s attention for sure with has dance moves, and flips in the air stunt at the end. The camera wisely panned to Jay-Z who seemed to be concentrating hard at the time, wonder what he was thinking? While his partner Kanye stood up the whole performance with his arms folded. Anyhow, Chris delivered with Yeah 3x, Wu Tang Clan’s “Protect Your Neck” and then he did a total switcharro with “Smell Likes Time Spirit” and ended with “Beautiful People.” Say what you want about Chris Brown’s past, but you got to give him his props he is truly talented and creative anytime he hits a stage.
4. Lil Wayne’ s leopard pants performance
Okay so fresh out the box with leopard skinny jeans and blue Polo boxers and shirtless steps out Lil Wayne who had just bounced back from his rock star skateboard fall in St. Louis and his Jay Z/ Beyonce diss track, to provide some LIVE rockstar style entertainment. He opened up with his popular track “How To Love” and then rocked us out with his song “John.” ( Come on Ladies and Gents did we really think the leopard pants were hot or not? ) It seems like Lil Wayne wants to be a rock star now and he ended his performance with a few guitar tunes and smashed it on stage.
Question is are the Lil Wayne fans feeling this new evolution of Wayne or do they want Weezy F. Baby?
5. Jay Z and Kanye West fire up the stage with “Otis”
Clearly, Jay-Z was on another planet maybe Mars last night. He exuded this sense of grown man power as he walked out with his old school traditional look of White Tee, Jeans and Yellow Boots while Kanye appeared to be a hype man as he jumped and pumped up the crowd with their performance. The fire on the stage was a nice touch. Did anyone notice the unexpected fan who ran up on the stage and was quickly taken down.
