Today the sun will shine on Louisiana, the air will be dry and motorcycle enthusiasts will have many opportunities to ride. There’s the Harley Shop’s beer and burger Saturday, a birthday bash, or a ride to the moon (not literally) and Valhalla (Viking Heaven), to name a few. The only excuse not to ride is the intense heat across the tri state area, but are you really going to play that card agai? There are methods to cool off, and minimize the extreme heat dangers, while still enjoying the wind in your face. Stay hydrated, wear light colored clothing, and ride shorter distances between stops, to name a few.
Rides and events Saturday, Aug 27, 2011
– Bossier City Harley Davidson Beer and Burger Saturday: Join your friends at the dealership for free food and beer from noon to 2 pm or “until they run out”. The burgers and dogs will be hot like the weather, but the beer will be ice cold. While there, shop at their garage sale. Once again, they’ve cleaned out the obsolete, used take-offs, and discontinued parts and accessories and are offering them to their customers at rock bottom prices. Buy tanks, fenders, exhausts and more. Cash sales only; no refunds and no wholesale dealers or aftermarket facilities.
– Birthday Bash at Our Place: 6th Annual August Birthday Bash. Our Place Bar & Grill in Elm Grove. 2 PM til…Come join Ron Hudson and 72 of his friends celebrating their Birthdays this month! Live music by Magnolia Brown Band. Catfish with all the trimmings and cold beer on the lake. Remember…no kids, no pets and no coolers.
– Ride with Pinky to Moon’s Grocery in Homer, followed by a jaunt to Valhalla Motorcycle Campground nearby where cold beverages will be waiting for riders. People drive for miles for the steaks and ribs at Moon’s Grocery and Deli on Scenic Louisiana Hwy 9 north of Highway 2 from Homer. It’s a self proclaimed, hole in the wall cafe. It doesn’t look like much from outside, but at Moon’s they cut their own steaks. You buy a bottle of booze, mixers, whatever, and serve yourself. No tables for two or candles! There’s moon pies, swiss rolls and zebra cakes on the dessert menu. Some delicacies include Pickled Eggs, Pickled Pigs Lips, Pork Hocks, Pigs Feet, Dill Pickles, and Jalapeño Peppers.
Termed “Louisiana’s Luckenbach” by my friends at Demented Cycles, you won’t want to miss Valhalla Motorcycle Campground. There are pool tables, a frosty iced bar, music and entertainment as well as free camping sites for those who want to hang around all night.
Meet at the Raceway near Louisisana Downs, 10 am. All bikes, all riders, no entry fees. It’s just FOR FUN!
