There are some concepts of the Word of God that we experience and have glorious victories, then later realize our understanding of it was only surface. There are times we think, “Oh, yeah! I’ve finally got this!” But, reality comes to show us later – we’ve only walked in a small part of the concept. It happens that way with all of us and that’s fine. The Word says we learn “line upon line, precept on precept, here a little – there a little”. Real learning, real growth happens just this way – in layers.
A good teacher will teach a little at a time, giving the student the time and tools to be able to apply what they have learned – and make the new knowledge a ready and effective tool in their hands. Then, work begins crafting a new tool in the student’s hand – stronger and able to do even more than the one before it.
Our God is the Master teacher and the work of transforming our lives happens like this, too. II Cor 3:18 says, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord”.
When we unveil our faces and come to God just as we are – no pretenses, no lies, no masks – transformation can begin. But, it happens from glory to glory – not of our own strength, but by the Spirit of the Lord. He orchestrates the change and does the work.
A large part of worship is allowing this transformation to happen. If we are never transformed, we become stuck in the quicksand of our own unresolved issues and God can’t use us past a certain point. As worship leaders, pastors and teachers – this is crucial. Our yielding to this transforming process speaks to whether we fulfill all God’s purpose for our lives. He will not move us past the place we are willing to go. He allows us that choice. But, in turn, we also can’t lead people past that place, either. We hit a wall and so do those we minister to.
God leads us to “transformation opportunities”. Circumstances and situations form around us and we make decisions to make a move for the truth of the Word or against it. We decide whether to really walk in love one situation at a time. We decide whether to really walk in purity one situation at a time. We decide to really live in honesty one situation at a time. This is what a “transformation opportunity” is. It is an opportunity to be changed, to go against the flow of what we’ve always done or been – one layer at a time.
Yes, there have been times when miracles have brought instant changes into the lives of people, but that is not the norm. Most transformation opportunity comes in the day to day walking with God. It happens line upon line, precept on precept – here a little, there a little.
God is challenging His people right now. He wants to use us past our comfort zones. He wants to do something bigger IN us – so He can do something bigger THROUGH us! Don’t fight for the right to stay the same. The climate of our world is becoming more intense every day and God’s people carry the answer, the remedy, the antidote. Let Him do a transformation work in you. It starts today – right now. Ask Him what areas He wants to begin transforming in you. He will show you. And you can be sure – when He begins the work, He will complete the work… in you.
